Homeopathic Remedies for Earache – Otalgia

Aconitum nap. (Four times a day): Earache due to extreme heat or extreme cold. Very useful in the early stages.

Actaea spic. (Thrice a day): Throbbing pains in the ears while sneezing or blowing the nose.

Aethusa cyn. (Thrice a day): Earache is relieved by boring a finger in the ear.

Belladonna (Four times a day): Sudden unbearable pains with redness of the external and middle ear.

Capsicum (Thrice a day): Earache due to rupture of the drum. Pains worse at night.

Chamomilla (Four times a day): A great remedy for earache in children. The pains of the ears are intolerable.

Gelsemium (Thrice a day): Earache during menopause.

Hepar Sulphuris (Thrice a day): Earache due to an abscess in the ear. Patient does not allow to touch the ear, as the touch increases the pains. Earache due to exposure to cold dry winds.

Lachesis 200 (One dose daily): It cures the tearing pain of the ear caused by the ear fungus which is generally black or white.

Magnesium phos. Q: Give 3 grains with warm water every half hour when the pains are relieved by hot application and by placing a hand on the ear.

Plantago Q: It gives relief from the earache. Instill a few drops in the ear, may be mixed in an equal quantity of Verbascum oil for instilling in the ear.

Pulsatilla nig. (Thrice a day): Otitis media – when tympanum is straw-colored and the pain does not bother the child.

Pyrogenium: Earache with purulent discharge.

Tuberculinum 1M (One dose only): Give this remedy when the earache is chronic and other remedies give no relief.

Valeriana Q: Earache from exposure to draught of cold air and cold.

Verbascum oil Internally, use 30 potency (Thrice a day): Earache with a sense of obstruction in the ear. Dry scales and itching in the middle ear. Use oil externally and 30 potency orally.

NOTE: The middle ear is connected to the throat via the eustachian tube. It is meant to allow air to flow into the middle ear when the atmospheric pressure changes. Sometime bacteria and viruses also enter the ear via this pathway causing otitis media and a discharge from the ear.
