It is caused by the bacteria which consume flesh, often leading to amputation or death. When the condition spreads into the muscle tissue, it is called necrotizing myositis. The incubation period of this disease is believed to be three weeks. It can be transmitted through body secretions exchanged during close contact, such as kissing. It is an infection in the tissues below the skin and is caused by Streptococcus bacteria group A.
