Homeopathic Cataract Treatment
Loss of transparency of the lens of the eye, or of its capsule is known as cataract.
Calcarea fluor. 200 (One dose only) Repeat after a week: One dose may be given weekly on days when Causticum is not administered.
Causticum 1000 (One dose only) Repeat after a month: Use in the beginning of the disease and give one dose a month.
Cineraria mart. 3x (Thrice a day): It is widely used as Eye drops in cataract and corneal opacities, and is reputed for its curative effect. 2 to 3 drops in each eye, thrice daily. It should be continued with the above treatment. Has to be used for 3 to 6 months.
Colchicum autum. (Thrice a day): Soft cataract. Pupils unequal. Pupil of the left eye contracted. Dim vision after reading.
Ledum pal. (Thrice a day): Cataract accompanied by gout.
Naphthalinum 3x (Thrice a day): Soft or other cataract with opacity of cornea.
Phosphorus (One dose daily): If the above two remedies fail to cure within three months and when there are black spots before the eyes, use this remedy. Great burning of the eyes.
Secale cor. (Thrice a day): Incipient cataract. Cataract of old people, especially women.
Silicea 12x (Thrice a day): Cataract of office workers. After-effects of injuries and ulcers of the cornea.
Sulphur 200 (One dose only) Repeat after 15 days: This should be used as an inter-current remedy occasionally in between the periods of treatment.
Surgery: Surgical treatment of cataract can be done at any stage of the disease. It is generally successful at the hands of a competent and reputed eye surgeon.
Zincum sulph. 1000 (One dose only): Not repeated frequently will clear up the opacities of the cornea.
NOTE: About half of those aged 65 to 74 and 70% of those 75 or older have cataract. Such patients have a cloudy or fuzzy vision, fading in appearance of colors, problems with glare from lamps, sun or car headlights. Double vision. At the first instance a change in glasses, stronger bifocals or use of magnifying lenses maybe sufficient along with the medication. If it does not help even after lapse of a sufficient period of treatment, Surgery may be suggested. During the Surgery, the foggy lens of the eye is removed and a clear artificial one (interocular lens) is implanted exactly where the old one used to be or in front of the anterior chamber of the eye. Surgery is successful in about 99% cases and takes about one hour or so.
