Homeopathic Medicine for Cough
Aceticum acidum (Thrice a day): Cough in patients suffering from phthisis. Chronic cough with purulent expectoration.
Aconitum nap. (Thrice a day), Hepar Sulphuris (Thrice a day): Violent, dry cough due to exposure to cold, dry wind.
Agaricus mus. (Thrice a day): Cough ending with a sneeze and worse after sleep. Mucus is expelled in little balls.
Ambra grisea (Thrice a day): Eructations with violent convulsive cough. Asthmatic breathing with eructations of gas. Gets out of breath when coughing. Tickling in throat, larynx and trachea.
Ammonium carb. (Thrice a day): Cough of old people with asthmatic breathing. Mostly at 3 o’clock and worse after sleep. It produces great weakness.
Antimonium tart. (Thrice a day): Hoarseness. Great rattling of mucus but very little comes out. Dyspnea better lying on the right side.
Argentum met.: Cough from laughing.
Arsenicum alb. (Thrice a day): Cough worse after midnight and lying on the back. Burning in the chest. Wheezing respiration. Expectoration, scanty and frothy.
Badiaga (Thrice a day): Cough worse in the afternoon and better in a warm room. Wheezing. Thick yellow mucus flies out of the mouth and nostrils on coughing.
Belladonna (Thrice a day): Paroxysmal dry cough in the evening and early night which turns face red. Tickling in the throat. Dyspnea. Cough provoked on speaking or on exertion. Pain in the hips on coughing. Expectoration may be bloody. Barking or whooping cough with pain in the stomach before an attack.
Bryonia alba (Thrice a day): Dry cough worse on movements, with pain in head and chest. Cough at night making the patient sit up to avoid suffocation. Cough with headache.
Calcarea carb. (Thrice a day): Tickling in the throat, larynx and under the sternum brings hacking cough which is worse during and after eating.
Capsicum (Thrice a day): Dry hacking cough expelling an offensive breath. Explosive cough with pain in bladder, ears, legs or in distant parts with fetid expectoration and fetid breath. Causes tears in the eyes and pain in the legs and ears.
Carbo veg. (Thrice a day): Cough caused by itching of larynx; hoarse, spasmodic with smell of Sulphur vapor in the throat. It is relieved by cold and cold drinks. Wheezing and rattling of mucus in the chest on coughing.
Causticum (Thrice a day): Dry cough in the evening from tickling in the trachea, also induced by speaking. Involuntarily urination on coughing and pain in the hips. Cough of old people. Cough with soreness of the larynx and chest. Mucus seems stuck in the throat and is hard to expel.
Chamomilla 200 (Twice a day), Cyclamen (Thrice a day), Nitricum acidum (Thrice a day): Dry cough during sleep. Rattling of mucus in the child’s chest and suffocative tightness of the chest. Cough of children during sleep without disturbing the sleep.
Chelidonium (Thrice a day): Very quick and short respiration. Short exhausting cough. Sensation of dust in the throat, not relieved by coughing. Loose, rattling cough with difficult expectoration. Pain on the right side of the chest and shoulders. Small lumps of mucus fly from the mouth when coughing.
Cina (Thrice a day): Dry, hollow, hoarse cough of children with worm symptoms. Gurgling from throat to stomach after coughing.
Coccus c. (Thrice a day): Troublesome cough of drunkards. Accumulation of thick viscid mucus, which is expectorated with great difficulty. Attack of whooping cough ends with vomiting of this mucus. Suffocative cough; worse first waking, with tough, white mucus which strangles.
Colchicum autum. (Thrice a day): Cough at night only, with involuntary passing of urine.
Croton tig. (Thrice a day): Cough as soon as he touches the pillow, must get up. Deep breathing causes cough.
Cuprum met. (Thrice a day): Cough has a gurgling sound and is relieved by drinking cold water. Suffocative attacks worse at 3 a.m..
Cyclamen (Thrice a day): Cough while asleep without waking, especially in children.
Drosera (Thrice a day): Cough is hoarse, barking and laryngeal. Constriction of chest and abdomen. The patient holds them with hands. Throughout the day there is no cough at all but it starts as soon as the head touches the pillow at night. Whooping cough. The paroxysms of cough follow each other very rapidly.
Dulcamara (Thrice a day): Winter cough. Must strain to expel mucus. Must cough a long time to expel phlegm. Cough after physical exertion.
Eupatorium perf. (Thrice a day): Cough arising from irritation of liver. Cough at night loose with hoarseness. Soreness of the trachea and sensation of scraping in the bronchi. Cough with soreness of chest compelling the patient to hold his chest with his hands. Restlessness.
Hepar Sulphuris (Thrice a day): Choking cough, dry and hoarse cough worse dry cold winds and when any part of the body gets cold or uncovered or while eating anything cold.
Ipecacuanha (Thrice a day): Cough with nausea and mucus which is expelled by some efforts. Suffocative cough; child becomes stiff and blue in the face.
Justicia adhatoda (Thrice a day): It is an excellent remedy in all sorts of coughs including whooping cough when used in the early stages and not below 30c. Cough with coryza, constant sneezing and profuse watering from the nose. The cough is however dry and accompanied by breathlessness. In so called pollen allergy its action lies between Allium cepa and Euphrasia.
Kalium bich. (Thrice a day): It is of great value in chronic catarrhal inflammations of the pharynx, and cough. The expectoration is very stringy, and it sticks to the pharynx and tongue. After coughing and raising the mucus, the patient needs to blow the nose and it gives a sense of relief. Cough is better from warmth and sometimes from lying down. Ant-t. follows well and completes the cure started by Kali-bi.
Kalium carb. (Thrice a day): Cough between 2 to 3 AM with stitches in the chest. Expectoration is scanty and tenacious, but increases in the morning and after eating.
Laurocerasus Q (Thrice a day) 2-5 days: Spasmodic tickling cough especially in cardiac patients, is often magically influenced by this drug. Dose, 2 to 5 drops in water, thrice daily.
Lycopodium (Thrice a day): Cough returning at the same hour every day. Expectoration may be bloody. Worse 4-8 PM. Throbbing headache after every paroxysm of cough. Expectoration gray, thick, purulent and salty.
Mephitis (Thrice a day): Cough following influenza. Violent spasmodic cough, worse at night.
Mercurius sol. (Thrice a day): Burning in the throat on coughing. Cough with yellow muco-purulent expectoration.
Myrtus comm. (Thrice a day): Obstinate cough, mostly dry with pain in the upper portion of the left chest to the left shoulder blade.
Natrium carb. (Twice a day): Cough worse when coming into a warm room from outside.
Natrium mur. 200 (One dose daily): Cough with bursting pain in the head, stitches in the chest and flow of tears while coughing. Cough from tickling in the pit of the stomach.
Nitricum acidum (Thrice a day): Cough during day only with taste of blood in the mouth. Dry, hacking cough from tickling in the larynx.
Nux vomica (Thrice a day): Cough brings on bursting headache and bruised pain in the epigastric region.
Osmium (Thrice a day): Very noisy, dry, hard cough shaking the whole body of the patient.
Phellandrium aqua. (Thrice a day): Cough with fetid expectoration early in the morning.
Phosphorus (Twice a day): Persistent cough from strong odors is cured by this remedy. Dry, hoarse and barking cough provoked by strong odors.
Phytolacca dec. (Thrice a day): Dry, hacking, tickling cough worse at night. Pain in the chest under the sternum on coughing. Cough from tickling in the throat; worse cold air, laughing and talking.
Psorinum (One dose daily): Cough returns every winter.
Pulsatilla nig. (Thrice a day): Dry, hard cough with great weakness in the chest. Dry cough in the evening and at night. Must sit up in bed to get relief. Loose cough in the morning, with copious mucoid expectoration. Urine is emitted on coughing.
Rhus tox. (Thrice a day): Bronchial coughs of old people, worse on awakening and with expectoration of small plugs of mucus. Cough in fevers and on getting wet when perspiring.
Rumex crispus (Thrice a day): Cough caused by deep inspiration accompanied with great fatigue. Stitches in the chest. Involuntary urination on coughing. Dry teasing cough, preventing sleep. Touching the throat pit brings on cough.
Sambucus nigra (Thrice a day): Suffocative cough, coming on about midnight with crying and dyspnea. Child awakens suddenly, nearly suffocated, sits up, turns blue. Expectoration of small quantities of mucus, only during the day.
Sanguinaria (Thrice a day): Cough of gastric origin relieved by eructation. Cough with pain and burning in the chest, worse right side. Mucus tough, rust colored, fetid and very difficult to raise.
Senega (Thrice a day): Cough with rattling, wheezing and difficult breathing. Great accumulation of mucus. Very useful for old people. Cough ends in sneezing. Bursting pain in the back on coughing.
Spongia (Thrice a day): Great dryness of the air passages. Dry cough sounding like sawing of wood or barking. Hoarseness due to cough. Tickling in the throat. Cough relieved by eating or drinking, especially warm drinks.
Squilla maritima (Thrice a day): Cough with sneezing, watering of eyes and involuntary urination. Child rubs face with fist during cough. Stitches in the chest. Loose and rattling cough with much mucus. Cough during measles.
Sticta pulm. (Thrice a day): Cough after measles, worse towards evening and when tired.
Stannum met. (Thrice a day): Influenzal cough from noon to midnight with little expectoration. During the day, expectoration is copious, green and sweetish. Violent, dry cough in the evening.
Sulphur 200 (One dose only) Repeat every 3rd day: Cough loose with rattling of mucus in the chest, worse after a bath and in the morning.
Trillium pend. (Thrice a day): Cough is followed by hiccoughs.
Tuberculinum 200 (One dose only) Repeat after a week: Hard, dry cough during sleep. Expectoration thick, profuse and easy. Suffocation even in plenty of fresh air. Longs for cold air. Rales all over the chest.
Vanadium (Thrice a day): Cough dry, irritating, paroxysmal, sometimes with bleeding.
Veratrum alb. (Thrice a day), Ambra grisea (Thrice a day): Cough followed by eructations of gas. Cough on entering a warm room from cold air.
Verbascum (Thrice a day): Cough deep, hoarse, hollow which sounds like a trumpet.
NOTE: Cough is a natural way to clear the lungs and remove phlegm from them.
