- Maintain a regular sleep schedule. Getting up at the same time every morning synchronizes the body’s biological clock.
- Keep the bedroom for sleeping. Do not read, watch TV or eat in bed.
- If you do not fall asleep within 20 minutes of going to bed, get up and read or listen to quite music until you get sleepy.
- Limit daytime naps.
- Take a 20 to 30 minutes warm bath before bed.
- Drink a glass of milk just before bed (warm or cold).
- Avoid caffeinated beverages and chocolate in the afternoon and evening.
- Don’t drink alcohol before bed time. It can cause sleeplessness at night.
- Exercise during the day but not before going to bed.
- According to Dr Anna Wirz – justice leader of the research team at Psychiatric University Clinic of Chronobiology and Sleep Laboratory, Switzerland, keeping the hands and feet warm in a cold bedroom induces sleep quickly
