Homeopathic Medicine for Peptic Ulcers
Peptic ulcers are lesions (holes or breaks) in the lining membrane of the stomach or duodenum. Increased stomach acid appears to be the major cause but for some people cigarette smoking, stress and some allopathic drugs may also be contributed to the ulcer development. The allopathic treatment changes rapidly from antibiotics (for treatment of Helicobacter pylori or H.P. bacteria which is supposed to be one of the causes but they are not sure from where H.P. comes from) to antacids to neutralize the acidic symptoms to anti-ulcer drugs to reduce the production of acid. A combination of all the three is also used. In homeopathy, the following remedies have proved useful and curative:
Aluminium phos. (Thrice a day): It is useful when the patient vomits food mixed with blood and is suffering from tuberculosis of the intestines. Bleeding peptic ulcers. See also Acidity.
Anacardium ori. (Thrice a day): Pain and burning begins after 2-3 hours of taking the meals when the stomach is empty. Eating gives relief temporarily.
Argentum nit. (Thrice a day): Use it with the symptoms of Arsenicum alb. combined with loud eructations.
Arsenicum alb. (Thrice a day): Lot of burning in the stomach and epigastric regions, worse at night and after eating and drinking.
Graphites (One dose daily): For long standing peptic ulcers with pain and pressure.
Kalium bich. (Thrice a day): Round ulcer of the stomach. Gastric symptoms are relieved by eating. Peptic ulcers.
Lycopodium 200 (One dose daily): It is useful for peptic ulcers when the patient passes wind in both directions along with burning in the esophagus. Incomplete burning eructations rise only to pharynx and bum there for hours.
Phosphorus (One dose daily): For duodenal ulcers when there is vomiting of food mixed with mucus, bile and blood.
Robinia (Thrice a day): This remedy is useful when there is great acidity.
Uranium nit. (Thrice a day): Peptic and duodenal ulcers. Eating is followed by flatulence.
NOTE: Below are some hints for changes in lifestyle for avoiding esophageal and other gastric ulcers and acidity:
- Sleep with your head 6тАЭ above your bed.
- Do not eat or drink foods with caffeine or alcohol.
- Avoid citrus juices, tomatoes and hot spicy foods.
- Eat small meals at shorter intervals about 6 times each day.
- Do not eat immediately before going to bed.
