NOTE 1: Such patients should take a bath daily but too sudden a change in the temperature of water should be avoided. Medicated soaps or ointments should not be used. If necessary, a glycerine soap may be used for bathing and coconut oil maybe applied gently on the affected parts and not rubbed. Locally, the parts can be washed with hydrogen peroxide. 1 part of it is mixed with 12 parts of water.
NOTE 2: If hygienic procedures of Note 1 are followed but the indicated remedy gives little or no relief, the part giving trouble maybe examined. Itching about the anus can be due to pinworms, hemorrhoids or residual soap remaining due to improper washing. Itching of external female genitalia is often an early sign of diabetes mellitus or vaginitis or for not washing properly after sexual intercourse.
